Lynda MacGibbon is the Vice-President of Communications, Marketing and Arts for InterVarsity in Canada. Lynda attended Urbana 79 as a first-year university student from a small town in Newfoundland. The Urbana conference increased Lynda’s faith and made her bolder in sharing her beliefs. Urbana has been an integral part of her life ever since.

In this Episode:

  • InterVarsity in Canada ministers to high school and university students and runs camps for children and young people. InterVarsity is focused on helping young people understand God’s love for them and how to live as His disciples.
  • Urbana is a gathering of 16,000 young (mostly!) people held every 3 years. The goal is to mobilize a generation of young people to give their whole lives to global mission.
  • Urbana is 5 days of multi-ethnic worship, Bible study, workshops, and connection with mission workers.
  • Urbana is December 27-31, 2018 is St. Louis Missouri. Visit urbana.org to register or learn more.
  • Urbana is for anyone who wants to hear God’s call in their life. Although the primary audience is young people, Urbana is for all ages. Pastors, parents, and grandparents participate as well!
  • Tracks at Urbana 18 include:
  • The foundational scripture for plenary sessions at Urbana 18 will be the book of Revelation.
  • One benefit of Urbana for the local church is multi-ethnic worship led by Eric Lige. Urbana participants often bring the multi-ethnic worship back to the local church.
  • Another benefit of Urbana for the local church is the opportunity to hear speakers from all around the world. Those who attend Urbana often share what they’ve learned with their local church.
  • The main Bible expositor this year will be René Breuel, a Brazilian pastor working in Rome, Italy.
  • Those who experience Urbana often energize their home church after the conference.
  • Urbana also energizes churches as they observe young people responding to God’s call to missions and have an opportunity to support them.
  • Often something a missionary says in a plenary session, workshop, or conversation will change a young person’s life forever.
  • Speakers help participants see beyond their local context to learn from brothers and sisters around the world.
  • Early bird registration is available until November 15, 2018.
